Equitas wants to close savings account citing non-serviceable pincode

I have received a bizzare email today that my Equitas savings account opened via online (NiyoX) is being closed due to 'non-serviceable pincode', they opened it fine back in 2022 without issue. I am based near Kolkata.

It sounds like an excuse since I have kept it 0 balance.

What can be done? Any tricks?

Anyone else received similar emails?

I have received a physical letter from Equitas SF Bank asking for confirmation on whether to continue the account or not.
My location is in a non-serviceable area. However, I have maintained Rs 20-30k MAB.

Well, I changed my current address and asked them to continue, and they said they will but my options will be limited to online services only.

Now I have escalated it to NO. I think my mistake was taking level 1 customer service's word for it. They are consistently useless in case of most fin-orgs.
 
Today I received a call from the nodal desk, she said that they can't reverse the closure. It was based first notice. Didn't acknowledge the address change and confirmation. But I can open a new regular account where they may not charge me AMB fees which is laughable because my previous account was a Niyo zero balance account, so absolutely rejected. It threatened her with escalation to RBI and asked for a written response to escalate, she said she will. So it's another battle again...

Looks like I need to withdraw everything and keep the account dormant. I can't risk sudden closure with money in there.

My ₹143 was debited and account closed. Now they are reluctant to give me in writing that reversal is possible. They are calling me and giving alterative options like another account with equivalent features etc. Putting me in a load of trouble, this account was linked everywhere. I guess they need RBI bamboo.

First, de-link the closed account from everywhere, then give them RBI Bamboo.
 
Update:

So after escalation till PNO, and a week or 2 of wait. I got a call that my account has been reinstated. Good!

A blunder they did:
1. They said during closure they will DD the remaining balance to my address
2. I receive a message 3 weeks later it has been credited to an account ending with numbers I don't recognise, because it's not mine!
3. When the call from PNO came after escalation, I ask them about whereabouts, and there they said they have transferred it to an Aadhar linked account of mine, without my consent! I wonder how got hold of that damn account.

Now my card remains closed, I paid AMC in January, but they are now asking me to order a new one with issuing fee of 199+GST. Not at all fair.

I am going to pursue that now.
 
Any updates on this? My wife received the same notice on her account yesterday, with the email header & subject line reading "Potential Suspicious Accounts". She's been using this account for monthly UPI expenses for a few years now.

Irony is that our address is not non-serviceable at all - it's within 1.5 kms from the local Equitas Bank branch & is in a prime area of Chennai 🤣

They have reinstated the account. But now want me to get a new DC with issuance charges waived. I am not agreeing to the latter. I need the same DC too.
