Then the essence of security is gone .. India is different to western countries in many many ways.. things work very differently in India !! Sometimes I wonder how these security agencies are able to provide their services for a country of the size of 1.4 Billion people..

But then how is Air travel different, say for example from Rail Travel, why in Railway stations people are allowed but not in airports? One could argue that people who travel by air are the ones who are more privileged members of the society and this difference in security is more biased in that sense.

I am talking people to accompany till the security check, so the actual security is still present and not eliminated completely, but at least non passengers are allowed inside the airport departure hall and to the check in counters.

security works at various levels.. each level you release the restrictions, it compounds the risk factors exponentially

But that also adds inconveniences. For example, is someone enters the airport building, that person can't leave by themselves. They need an airport staff to assist through the security to get out. This actually happened with me once at PNQ.

@aayusharyan , it is just not about priviliged vs non-priviliged... it is the mode of transporation also that matters.. Air travel is much riskier compared to any other travel.. once in the sky, until safe landing you are actaully not in this world technically... A lot can go wrong... Air travel is an unbelievable invention by mankind ..

IMO, in the current tradeoff of security vs inconvenience. India is focusing on security mostly because it has been like that. I mean, other countries also had tighter security, but they laxed it slowly. But we didn't. We are still stuck with those rules which now serves more towards inconvenience instead of security.

@S S V With respect, I disagree. Air travel is the safest mode of transport. All across the world. And when everyone else have laxed security, why not us.

As I said, we can't compare India to any country .. people by themselves, very over smart in India .. Tell me how many people respect the rules in comparision with western part..

Even considering that, what difference (in terms of security) will it make to allow non pax till the check in counters. There is still security after that and sometimes, they do check the ID proof at that point as well.

I completely agree with the safest thing in general .. I have frineds who are captains of A 380s.. it is a wonderful science.. DO you know why they are safest.. because of the secuirty measures they are taking now and also because of evolving science ..

Because in terms of convenience, it will make some difference.

Again, I am sorry but I disagree here as well. The security is not that efficient. There have been researches done where people were able to get illegal stuff onboard airplanes. The reason IMO it works in west is that the punishments are tight. But here, instead of strengthening that, we are just adding more.... Checkpoints.
