20k joining points on AMEX Platinum Travel ft. RBI Ombudsman

So I'll try to keep this post short, and a great Thanks to RBI for helping me out here

10th July: I receive an upgrade offer to AMEX Platinum Travel card on my existing MRCC card. The mail mentions that I'll get additional 10,000 points upon upgrade and offer is valid till 31st July. I got confused that if they're talking about regular 10k joining benefit or it's on top of 10k points they already provide

13th July: I call AMEX and confirm the same, they say it's regular points and you won't get additional 10k points for upgrade. I was not satisfied, because if it were just regular 10k points, why did the mail mention that the 'offer is valid till 31st July'. So this must have been some special offer for me. Keeping my hopes up high, I call AMEX again and just for future purpose, I recorded that call on my laptop. To my surprise, this time executive clearly confirmed that I'll get additional 20k points upon joining. So I upgraded my MRCC card to PT card (received the card after few days)

24th October: After patiently waiting for 90 days, I got 10k points as joining benefit. I asked them about the bonus 10k points, no one in AMEX team has the idea about this and they said it'll be just 10k and no other points are going to be credited. I told them I've the recording but they just won't listen.

29th October: I talked to them again and this time with a little emphasis that if they don't resolve my complain I'll not have any choice but to complain to higher authorities. Again, they say the same thing.

30th October: I file my complaint to RBI Ombudsmen under the section mis-selling of credit card. I told them all the facts, and while their proof section didn't have option of audio file upload, I explained to them in clear words about my concern.

31st October: The very next day I receive a mail from AMEX that my complain has been registered and they're looking into it.

3rd November: AMEX executive calls me and asks the date on which the recording happened, I told them it was 13th July.

7th November: I receive another call from AMEX and they told there's no such recording on this date. I told them I've the recording with me and I can send them for their satisfaction. At this point of time they were sounding a bit frustrated.

8th November: Another mail I receive from AMEX that my recording is received and they're looking into it.

13th November: Today I receive the call from AMEX that they've listened to the recording and confirmed that I'll get the points. They mentioned that it was mis communication by their executive (who has left the company that's why they were not able to find their recording), and although no such offer existed for me, they'll give the points as they told me they will.

It took exactly 4 months to complete the battle but it was worth the wait 😉

Recording/ email confirmations is good insurance. Even if we feel the hesitation, we should always record or ask for email confirmation for joining benefits/ Life Time Free confirmation. Requested the same for LTF Sapphiro recently, feel much more relieved after the confirmation.

Yes, indeed a good practice. As soon as I receive any card LTF or FYF, I always send mail to get written confirmation as many times cards are mis sold.

Nice fight buddy ! RBI Ombudsman does help. Also is there some link in TF on how to file complaint, have never done it personally.
