Achieve spends using flight tickets and hotel bookings

I have read in this forum in multiple threads that we can achieve spends by booking refundable flight tickets and hotels bookings?
Can anyone give an example where I can do this and achieve spend targets?

Don't do it. Too risky thing to do if there are hidden penalities. Batter order on ecom and cancel right away. But I don't like tricking the system until txn genuinely fails.

If the order gets cancelled and gets refunded how does it count as a spend?

Some banks take it as a spend until unless offer TnC says cancellation and refunds won't be eligible for cashback. Also some people do it just before offer expiry date and refund comes later so it counts.
