Airtel eSIM - Transfer to a new phone while abroad

I have done AIRTEL eSIM transfer from one phone to another - while in India - and it was easy.

But, transferring AIRTEL eSIM from working phone to a new phone - while ABROAD - is almost impossible. Despite having all the needed inputs like EIDs of both phones (existing/ working phone as well as the new phone).

You need to wait till you are back in India.

Anyone has a solution ?

The concept is that eSIM migration will happen only on base/home network within your home country(India in your case). While you're roaming, you're most likely using third party or vendor network so it will just show activating forever and it won't happen. Faced this issue when I was in NY and had to call Airtel customer care and they confirmed eSIM transfer won't work on foreign/vendor network

Theoretically speaking...

What If AirTel can generate a new QR code - in India - based on the new phone's EID. Will such a QR code work (after it is scanned on the new phone) ?

The esim will work only on the phone for which imei and eid is given.

Little off topic, am planning to get iphone from US and wanted to know if any issues when using in india ? considering all iphones in US are eSim.

The problem is not with the QR Code/SMS you sent to migrate/transfer. The issue is one has to be on the base/home network. Even if they send new QR code it won't work unless you're on Airtel owned network zone.

eSIM has become more of a problem than convenience. Recently migrated from old iPhone to new iPhone while I was abroad, didn't realise eSIM doesn't get transferred with all the data.

Erased all settings including eSIM in old phone and bam, got disconnected until I'm back home. There was no way to recover or even get the new one while being in another country. I had to come back, visit local AirTel store, do my KYC again, wait for 2 hours and only then the eSIM was activated.

Physical SIM would've just been easier to move to the new phone and continue without the hassle. I think this issue is only with Indian networks. I was able to activate eSIM of another country while I was in India and upon landing was able to use it without the hassle.

yeah, overusing technology and creating new problems:beaming-face-with-smiling-eyes:

Absence of physical SIM trays is forcing everyone to go in for eSIM.

Many latest phones do not have any SIM trays. These new phones also do not provide any charger units.

companies are removing few basic things to make more profit. They present it as environmental goal but reality it generates more revenue. (charger/earphone)
