When Amazon Pay started in 2019 it came with a feature called cash load at doorstep which was pretty useful whenever a delivery agent arrives you give him cash and he adds it to your wallet. Now sharing my experience with Amazon pay
I applied for Amazon pay in 2019 but was not able to complete kyc as the only way to do so was through doorstep agent and only a few delivery partners can do so and even fewer are willing to. So by luck I completed it in January 2020 and then came the pandamic. This is when I found out about doorstep cash load service. Amazon pay‘s acceptance was increasing and I was using it extensively but banks were closed so I decided to load cash directly to wallet. In the initial days there was no monthly/annual limit on adding money only that balance could not exceed 1 Lakh and you could only load maximum 49999 on a single day. So I used it extensively during 2020 and the beginning of 2021. My estimate is that I might have 5 Lakh or more through this as I had to buy things that were expensive and they did not let me pay for orders using cash for any order citing covid 19. I knew this was not the best method but I was out of options.
So everything was working smoothly till mid 2021, then they introduced daily limit of 4000 and monthly of 40k. By then the banks were already open so I reverted back to them. Now in April 2022 I added 50k using my credit card to wallet to use for orders, Uber rides etc and suddenly wallet was completely unusable. I contacted customer care the next day they said it might be a small issue will take 2-3 days. Two months passed by wallet still unusable contacted customer care through email, chat and call 10-15 times, always same response wait one week. Then one agent revealed to me what was the response from their back end team, it stated that due to legal reasons the account is suspended and the appropriate authorities have been informed. After that I started to do my research, it turns out no merchant can accept more than 2 Lakh from a single customer in one financial year so I rushed to calculate how much did I spend and to my surprise none of my transactions of that period were to be found anywhere.
After contacting the customer care one month later I finally connected with someone who knew about this matter, he told me that accounts are getting blocked even for small amount of cash load. His team knew how to resolve it and within a week my wallet was working again.
Horrible experience overall, I might even get an income tax notice for no reason at all. My request to Amazon is that think for at least a day before you bring new features.
