American Express Global Transfer from India to UK?

Has anyone here ever been able to get a new American express card in a foreign country based on their pre-existing credit relationship with American Express in India?

I read about this global backing program on their website, which says if you’re migrating to a new country then you could apply for a new card there without a local credit score of the new country and that they would only check if you have an existing American express card from your home country (India, in this case) with at-least 3 months of good history maintained.

Now I have plans to start my first job soon here in India but after 6-7 months, I’ll be getting the opportunity to move to UK. So I was thinking about taking the basic American Express Smart earn credit card and use it for however long I’m here and use that relationship to get a new card from UK when I move there.

My spends are low compared to the average person, so I just want to take the lowest card possible from Amex, just to be eligible to take a new card from UK when I move there.

Is smart earn credit card good enough for this purpose alone? If yes, then can I apply as soon as I start working my first job here or do I have to wait 1 month for my first salary to be credited (in case they ask for income proof)?

Edit: I already have an IndusInd legend cc ltf which was offered to me pre-approved with no income proof due to long standing banking relationship, so I have 1.5 years of credit history and 780 cibil score

For cross country applications consideration we should have AmEx charge cards either gold or plat

Thanks for your reply, but where exactly is this mentioned? I’m only asking because I read that you need to have an American Express issued Consumer card for 3 months for this purpose, which I thought meant both credit and charge cards
Its not documented but when my cousin went abroad he was informed so and they finally considered the charge card history of India

Smartearn should work fine for you... Could even consider MRCC... Use a referral to get first year free and 2000 MR points!

I am not sure about UK. But it should work.

I have amex platinum travel card in India. When I moved to US, I applied to Amex blue cash preferred(US Local variant). I got handsome limit based on India CIBIL score and Indian card usage.

You just need local address proof and ID proof that's it. You don't need first salary credit.

Its doesn't matter which card you have in India.
