Hey TFC Guys,

I hope you’ve seen some IYKYK posts on Twitter about the new offer. They’re referring to the American Express x Marriott Bonvoy Points Transfer Offer.
On 17th feb 2025, the offer will go live.

Amex Platinum and Centurion cardholders will be able to transfer their MR points to their Marriott Bonvoy account and receive a 10% bonus.
However, this is quite disappointing. Amex used to offer a 30% bonus, but now it’s only 10%—and that too, only for Platinum and Centurion cardholders.

Moderator's Note:

The offer is live from 17th April 2025 and will continue till 18th April 2025

The 10% Bonus points are capped at 25,000 MR points, thus to maximise the value, you should transfer 2,50,000 MR points to Marriott, not more than that.

The credit of the Bonus Points will happen after 120 days from the date of transfer initiated.

With the recent devaluation of redemption rates of Marriott hotels, especially the top-of-line properties such as JW Masai Mara, this 10% bonus compensates a bit of it, though Marriott could've done better with no capping and a higher % bonus. The Platinum Charge card's offer of 1,50,000 points just got a bit sweeter with this offer.

Official T&C of this offer attached.

I find this so frustrating! 😅 I have got 192k Marriott points with no rush to transfer, and I was patiently waiting for the 30% bonus promo. Now I am torn between grabbing this 10% offer or holding out.

Any thoughts on whether Marriott or Amex points are more devaluation-proof?
Where should I be storing my points if I have no immediate use?

Yea man, i am thinking of redeeming half atleast.

This bonus usually comes from Marriott's end and not Amex. So why would they care if user has Platinum or Centurion?
Obviously it matters to Marriott. So many people have the Platinum Travel and other cards with thousands of points. If they give high bonus to everyone, all their properties will be booked only using points, eventually causing a devaluation. Secondly, platinum and centurion holders are more probable to spend higher on their stay apart from just points too.

Roughly 2.5% to 3% of Marriott Bonvoy members are based in India. We're not that significant enough of a clientele to drive them to make such changes. Credit card churning happens at a much bigger scale in US, and despite of that, they got the 30% bonus offer twice in last year. Platinum Travel bonuses are very minuscule compared to that.

From a worldwide perspective, the numbers might look small.

But when Marriott India looks at half of its bookings using points, they might get scared and not have a satisfying answer in worldwide townhalls.
I think they're trying to keep things under control and let their points hold more value which I think isn't such a bad decision.

Honestly this is exaggeration. I'm at Sheraton Colombo right now, I met an old couple yesterday in the club lounge, probably in their 60s. They're from US, and are on on world tour right now sponsored by Bonvoy points. They're headed to Hong Kong next, and will fly to Japan from there. I don't think we're even anywhere close to how much people from Americas are taking advantage of these points. If you're simply referring to hotels in India, apart from a few properties, you don't get good value anyway for your points. No one in their right mind is spending 30k points for hotels that cost ₹10k a night in Goa. Most people are looking at Westin Himalayas, JW or Mulberry Shades in Nandi Hills to spend these points. Again, these 3 properties are definitely not enough to drive such changes.

Seriously, this was a complete mis-reading from Marriott's part, and they'd have saved more money by offering 30% bonus to Indian Amex cardholders than other countries.
