great

TF Premier
Hi

My gold charge card completed one year and been charged 4500 + tax charges as annual charges
Usage - only 6kx1 in last one year
Points around 65k

I call cc and ask for retention offer

Option Given
1) Pay Half Charges and other charges waived
2) Spend 1 Lac in next 90 days
3) Close the Card (need suggestion to use points)
4) Apply for new card (option ruled out due to no new applications)

Pls suggest

Do the maths
Spend 6 x 1000 x 12 months on Amex Reward multiplier website
So 72000 spend gets 1600 x 12=19200 points, worth 9600 @50p
9600-2655=6945, which is 9.64% return on 72000 spend.

There are cards giving higher returns, but do you have those???
can you list out card which give more than 9.6 % return ?

Dear Friends,

I just called Amex to request a reversal of the annual fees on my Gold Charge Card and I was given the following options:
  1. 50% waiver of the fees, i.e. reversal of Rs. 2655
  2. Spend 1L in 90 days.
On option 2, I tried to bargain on the amount. When I didn't succeed on that tried to bargain on the duration. That didn't work either. Finally I asked do I have to pay the fees if I cancel the card? The answer was if I please the cancellation request before the due date the complete charges will be reversed and card will be cancelled.

I didn't opt for anything at the moment. I'll have to call back before the due date and let them know which option I have decided to go with.

Do you think I can get a better offer if I say that I am going with cancellation? I have MRCC too - spend target met.
I too received same offers and I chose 1lakh spend and got the full fee waiver yesterday. My retention offer was given on 9th Feb.
If you don't want to spend 1lakh then 50% is decent enough fee. I main use th gc for milestone and fuel in hp.

I just called back and took offer 2.

Requested for extension to 120 days but was told it is not possible at the moment, however if I am unable to meet the target in 90 days, I can call again before 90 days are over and request for the same - no assurance but may work.

Got a mail stating: SAC Promise To Spend (P2S) Offer

It's better to pay 50%
this card is only good for 1000 x 6 times every month American Express rewards multiplier site

Amex plays cleverly here when it comes to giving retention offers on gold and platinum travel

Last Year, during my gold card renewal, I was given spend based (1.5L) retention offer for gold charge, or pay 50% fee. They were ready to negotiate on spend criteria for it (down to 1L). However I chose to close the card and retook the same after a few months.

For platinum travel cc, they were giving all other retention offers but not the spend based full waiver. Denied even after multiple requests. Finally when I called after a few days to close the card, they immediately offered spend based fee waiver (1.5L in 90 days) on my platinum travel card. This is recently in March this year

Yes you would get the email once they promise you. If you want to complete it use mobikwik wallet

Also got same offers and while bargaining just like you when they didn't budged even a little, I went for option 1 since I like Gold card's return ratio

Same in my case I got only 2 offers
2.5L in 60 days or 50% fee waiver

I tried negotiating the spend offer they said the system doesn't allow. I initially took 2.5L in 60days as I have a big spend coming up (1.8L). The merchant did not accept it and I had called them again to re negotiate the offers.

Finally caved in for 50% off.

Whooaaa... 2.5L spend for 5.5k fee waiver is a big thing to ask... Almost 2% returns
