Amex sending physical envelope for pre approved platinum travel upgrade

Hi guys,

American express is now sending physical envelopes with 2k Amazon voucher to upgrade to pre approved platinum travel card. I didn't even show interest in their platinum travel card, but they sent this.

I don't think that kind of offers can happen in Indian Economy.

Yes Platinum Travel dont have fee waivers but on 11th month u can bargain for some reward points and if your spends are higher then they consider for it

So, 2k Amazon voucher and 10k points for a new application? Even with the first year fee this seems to be a better deal than going through referral? Of course that gives you cash in hand but you lose out on around 3k worth of benefits, out of which 2k is as good as cash?
