Any idea on how banks map Account Numbers without IFSC ?

Earlier, IFSC number was compulsory, but while sending money to bank account, through PayTM or Phonepe, they no longer ask for IFSC. Only the bank's name, and account number . Isn't it risky?

Usually the first 4 numbers of your account number is in ifsc code of the branch...
