Anyone used Thomas Cook and IRCTC tour packs?

Is TC any good for international trips and IRCTC for local trips. I feel the prices are very high. For TC also GST is charged. Did anyone used the tour packages before what was you experience? better to travel by ourselves?

For all our travels - domestic and international - we never use any travel agency or such tour operator's trips.

We decide, study, plan n be on our own.

Our daily routines and tastes are such that we can not go with a group. We are well planned n be there a few minutes early. Not in the habit of being late or wait for someone. Strict Pure veg. Not shopholics. No drinkings. So, difficult with going in a group. We do not wish to rush. We scout for good veg restaurants n decent family hotels. We walk a lot. Let the culture sink in. We read a lot so no need of a tour guide.

For example, we spent 2 weeks in only Rome, 2 full days in the Vatican n 4 full days in Venice. 3 weeks in all.

In that time, most operators will make you tour entire Europe.

I have used IRCTC for local trips. Its not worth it tbh, better to try with a local tour operator or plan your own trip by doing some research.

How much did it cost for Italy trip? I am a solo traveler. I am pretty much the same well planned, research everything, walk a lot, not into shopping, explore places and hotels.

For this 2nd European trip, we (wife n myself) spent INR 4,01,834/- including our 2 week trip to Malta, besides this Italy trip. This figure is post refunds n post settlements of forex expenses. Booked all tickets, hotels, trains n buses much in advance (almost a year in advance - got hotel prices much cheaper).

I will chose hostel it is around 2k for 1 day only issue is with food. Also Schengen visa has high rejection rate. Do I need medical insurance what is cheapest one? I can get NOC from employer if helps in getting visa.
