I made an electricity bill payment for x rs via my Axis credit card. I got an OTP for x rs and after approving the card was debited by x.
However, after the transaction settlement, the amount became x + 40 rs. I talked to customer care and he said for electricity bill this can happen. I asked to transfer to his manager and he said the claimed amount by merchant was x+40 on settlement hence you were charged additional.
How can this happen? If OTP is for x, they should only debit x, right? How can merchant claim for more? Even if they claim more, shouldn’t Axis reject the claim? As I have only approved for x and not x+40.
I have asked them to raise a complaint, let’s see what happens. 40 is of course not a huge amount, but wondering how this happens and why Axis bank allows this kind of practice. Tomorrow any offline merchant can claim 2x and I will never know until I check my statement.
FYI: There were no additional charges mentioned on the page for credit card and the payment was done before due date.
