With Amex Plat Travel, as per their T&C, one does not get base RPs for these categories: fuel, insurance, other utility services, cash transactions, govt transactions and EMI transactions. But transactions on these are counted for milestone benefits.
So, do check the MCC before executing your transaction. If the MCC is of Insurance (i.e. transactions which are maintained with MCC 6300, 6381, 5960, 6012 & 6051 are covered under Insurance spends, as per open source
here), then you will not get the base RPs. However, your transaction will still be counted towards the milestone benefits.
However, you can speak to the customer care after making a small transaction of say Rs 100 towards the insurance payment and then check if you are getting the base RPs on that transaction or not, based on the MCC of that transaction. Then you can take a considered call.
Hope this helps.
