In similar situation. Guys need your suggestions.
I will make 1.8L education fee payment within next 11 months (90+90k). The school third party portal has excluded mcc hence, I can not use my hdfc and yes bank cards. Any suggestions if I should go for Amex platinum travel card or Axis Atlas, purely for education fee payment purpose? Or is there any other option which I should consider? Thank you 😊

If you don't mind telling, what is name of education app that is excluded? Also what is mcc?
What excluded MCC? Does it have MCC other than Education?
Unless you tell the MCC it is difficult to suggest cards. Also, pls first check if Amex is accepted, only then it is one of the option
In my case, AMEX not accepted, only visa or master cards.
The app name is Edunext with mcc 8220 which is excluded as per hdfc bank circular.

Amazon pay wallet option is not available. Amazon pay UPI option (payment using UPI id) is there but we can not use AP gift vouchers balance using AP UPI right?
Not able to understand, but where is it mentioned that these are excluded MCCs? Only payment via third party apps is restricted. Direct payment on these MCCs via school website will give reward points
I have personally made payments on Education institutes directly via Infinia and have got reward points. Similar to case you mentioned

He is sure the MCC code is 8220, which is definitely excluded
This is a third party app with mcc 8220 which will attract 1% charge if I pay using infinia and will not get any reward points. There is no option of paying from school POS machine.

Yes, last year around March I did payment using DCB and received reward points. But from September 2024 onwards HDFC excluded these MCCs if paying through third party apps. I have confirmed mcc from RM for last year transaction.
Ok.. I think lot of people are under some confusion... It is not a third party app.
All school payments are outsourced, and these days very few schools have PoS machines. Direct payment does not mean PoS machine!!
If Edunext payment page comes via school portal login, then it is considered as direct payment
P.S: I pay via entab login... it comes via school page login... and I got all reward points and no 1% charges couple of weeks back. Transaction amount was 1L
The edunext has separate portal and unlike you it doesn't come after school log in. It seems I can take a chance and pay using infinia (and in worst case bear 1% charge from hdfc) or take Amex platinum travel card or Atlas
Atlas will work in a similar fashion as of Infinia (Axis has same T&Cs from 20th Dec). Amex Plat travel is the option if you do not want to take any risk
