Bypassing application cooldown for credit card

damn

TF Select
I have, in last 7 months, have applied for HDFC credit card about 10 times in order to test a thesis I had. I came to know that some banks like Axis, even if your application was declined by them, will bypass cooldown and approval restrictions if you were eligible for application from Google Pay (Some restrictions still exist, but for all intents and purposes, you can get your card the same day from them even if you were declined by them before). I then wanted to check what other banks allowed this to happen.

For this post, I will focus on HDFC. I first applied for HDFC card on their website directly in May 2024. I was declined due to internal policies. Then, in July, my Swiggy app started showing FYF option. I tried it and got an estimated limit of Rs 60k. I did my video kyc but failed my IPV. I then got another offer same month in the Tata Neu app, but the limit was Rs 20k. It was declined immediately within 24 hours due to internal policy.

Then, I mailed escalations about the reason for decline, where they informed me of the issue. I then asked them to help me out with rectification, but after months of processing, the application was properly rejected and I was asked to mail the PNO if necessary. I just left it there. During this period, the Swiggy app kept regenerating the offer, albeit with different limits each time.

Then, finally last month, I opened an account with HDFC as I assumed my application issues were due to KYC problems. As soon as my account was opened, I went to Tata Neu, where I got the offer for Rs 20k card, verification for which was approved immediately. And now I have the card.

More observations:
  1. Paytm and other apps may show you are eligible to apply, but they will adhere to cooldown restrictions. Better leave them alone. Telling from experience.
  2. No of enquiries did not matter in my case, so give it a try if you want(No of enquiries I did in the last 3 years - 72).
  3. Keep alternating between Swiggy and Tata Neu; one of them will eventually approve your card.
  4. If you keep facing issues during IPV, just open an account with them, get your card, and close it. The entire exercise would take less than 7 days, during which you can close your account without any charges.

That is all I can remember right now, will update the post if I remember something else of use or if I find something else. Till then, enjoy.
