Can I close an American Express card and reapply for the same version later on?

I have 2 cards currently. Gold Charge card and MRCC. I got the MRCC via normal application so my annual fees is 4500. But I got to know that if done via referral, the annual fee is 1500.

Can I cancel the MRCC and then reapply later via referral for the lower annual fees? Will they accept the application for same card version, and if so, is there any cooling period?

Any help will be appreciated.

Yes u can. Wait for 1-2 months before reapplying. Below is my referral link if you interested. Thanks

If I reapply for same MRCC card with your link, I'll get the reduced annual fee version, right? I hope they won't cancel my application or something

As others suggested you can chk with customer care on cool off period between cancellation and reapplication.. yes if u apply using the referral link mrcc first yr is free snd second yr is 1500+gst

I read in someone's thread that if you have an Amex gold then you can take MRCC as an add-on with zero fees. Although I am not much aware about Amex cards and how they work.

Please check if that is a possibility and best of luck. 🤞

Amex stopped offering companion cards a while back. Only card you card get a companion with is the Amex Platinum charge card now!

Last year I was lucky to convert my existing MRCC as LTF companion to Plat Travel. Plat Travel I had got as an upgrade offer from MRCC. Later I had also received upgrade offer from Plat Travel to Plat Charge and that would have made Plat Travel also LTF companion but didn't take the upgrade offer.
