Can I Get a Refund for Auto-Debited Excess Payment on SBI Credit Card?

Hello Everyone,

I need your advice on an issue with my SBI Credit Card. Here's the sequence of events:
  • I paid my full outstanding balance plus an extra ₹28,000 on February 2, 2025, a day before the due date.
  • Despite this, SBI auto-debited ₹20,000 from my bank account through NACH on February 3, 2025.
  • I contacted customer support multiple times, requesting a refund to the original source account.
  • Instead, SBI adjusted the ₹20,000 against fresh retail transactions, even though the bill for these transactions hasn't been generated.
  • Their final response stated that there’s no credit balance as the excess amount has already been adjusted.
Has anyone faced a similar issue? Is there any way to get the auto-debited amount refunded back to my bank account instead of being forcefully adjusted?

Credit Balance Refund is only available if you have an excess balance in your card account. If you hadn't made any transactions for the amount to be adjusted, they would have easily provided you with a CBR. However, it is not possible now.

Already shared bank details in mail and follow multiple times. Node officer replied that it has been adjusted with fresh transaction.
But no one has clearly denied so not sure about the rules.

If your available limit is in negative or available current limit is above original credit limit, only in this case you will be able to get the excess balance(amount=Available limit-Original credit limit) in your bank ac.If you made transactions after that and the excess balance is adjusted, then no way you will be able to get credit balance refund. The payments will be adjusted in next statement.

It's very hard to get a refund in this case. As technically you don't have any excessive balance.

Exactly ! !

Thanks, everyone, for your responses.

I understand that the amount has already been adjusted, but my query was purely out of curiosity to explore if there are any rules or legal provisions that favor consumers in such cases.

Sometimes people have specific financial plans, and unexpected adjustments can disrupt those plans. What’s concerning in my case is that SBI proceeded with the auto-debit despite my full payment, including an excess of ₹28,000.

Appreciate the insights shared, just wanted to understand if better consumer-friendly practices exist.
