Canara Bank Asking for Field Visit & Geo-Tagging – Is This a New Norm?

I recently visited Canara branch to open (or have) a savings account with Canara Bank, and now they are insisting on a field visit by a representative. They mentioned they also need to collect geo-tag information during this visit.


This is the first time I’ve heard of such a requirement for a regular savings account.
Is this a new RBI/KYC guideline or something specific to Canara Bank?


Has anyone else faced a similar situation recently? Would appreciate if someone can shed some light on whether this is becoming common across banks or if it's an isolated case.

Week 2, April 2025 -
Pvt : Seen Axis Bank recently, max form filling things done at branch on Mobile, for Geo Location Tagging and location live Pic, visit to residence by Branch Executive.
Pvt : HDFC Bank not doing anything like this, Just a Letter from India post after account opening, to be delivered at residence.
PSU : 2 banks, nothing like this.(Biometric KYC only)

Same. Still waiting for Canara bank's field visit 3 weeks after application in branch. Now they're not answering my calls. I advise people to open it online if possible.

Digital KYC kar raha 🤣 even though offline verification is possible (ask physical form and submit the same, have the facility to open using it via TAB).

Or better to visit some other branch, if you're not okay with such KYC. Not only geo tag information, may be they will also capture live photo,OVDs, etc. 😂

It happens with private banks like icici, kotak, axis.... They just make sure you aren't the next Vijay mallya, nirav modi.... 😋

Opening a simple bank account shouldn't be such a hassle !!!
