Capping for Axis Vistara Infinite and Magnus

Amit Dhatrak

TF Buzz
Hi TF community,
I’ve just received my Axis Vistara Infinite card and that gets my tally to 2 along with my Magnus

Wanted to understand if there is an individual capping for Gyftr, grabdeals?

for ex - Gyftr allows me to purchase 10,000 Amazon voucher. Will it now allow me 20k

If not, can I make a new account and do it?

Thanks in advance.

Any specific reason to buy VI CC? Magnus is fulfilling VI benefits nowadays.

I’ve taken Vistara for CV Gold membership. Anyway I’ll be discontinuing next year if I have to pay the joining fees.

This year it will be waived off for achieving 1.2 L in 90 days.
I was also thinking the same and the opportunity cost, in my case, I would prefer to spend that 1.2L with Magnus which will give more benefits than VI

Actually not.. AFAIK, the current Vistara card offers are great specially the Infinite one.
1. You get 1 Biz class ticket - approx 20K
2. Spend 100K get 10K bonus CV points (total 13K CV points incl the regular earn of 3K)- approx 13K
3. Spend 120K, the joining fees is waived off
4. 2 One class upgrade vouchers - approx value 5K each- total approx 10K
Total benefits = 20+13+10=43K by just spending 120K, which is whopping 35%. On top of it, you get Vistara Gold benefits, if you happen to use their services often for the whole year.

In fact if you can make 250K spend for the whole year, you get one more biz class ticket apart from 3600 CV points. They are collectively around 23.6K worth. So approx 20% on the additional 130K spend.

It's all relative value.

Most people won't buy business class tickets even at 50% discount 😅. I have seen people trying to sell it and none ready to buy.

If I am paying 5k for economy ticket, I won't be willing to pay more than 7k for Business class. So for me the value is too less.

I think 7K is extremely low. Let us take the most pessimistic amount of around 10K. Even at 10K the value of 120K spend is around 28K (10K+13K+5K) after considering the value of 2 upgrade vouchers at 2.5K each.

There's good value in this card as long as you have the annual fee waiver from the ongoing promotion and that you see the value on flying business class.

If you don't then the discussion is over, stick to Magnus because you can't exchange the business class voucher for several economy tickets which most people would rather find more useful and of more value.

Vistara has 1.2L spends for the waiver, I'd just get it and use it enough to get the annual fee waived and leave it on my drawer until it's time to cancel it.

Vistara Infinite monetary value ~53k INR for 1.2L spends:
  • Business class voucher: 20k INR
  • Upgrade vouchers x2: 20k INR
  • 10k points milestone at 0.80p: 8k INR
  • 3.6k CV points from 1.2L spends: 2.9k INR
  • Vistara Gold (add your own value here) for a year which waives cancellation/change fees and some good perks.
  • Golf 6 lessons/games per year (no value for most)

Magnus monetary value ~30k INR for 1.2L spends, about ~40k INR when optimizing spends:
  • Milestone (32k points) 25k points once transferred 5:4 at 0.80p: 20k INR
  • 10k INR Tatacliq voucher/flight.
Even if you optimize by using the GrabDeals and Gyftr for your usual purchases, in my case I get an extra value of ~11k INR per month on usual expenses which still can't match the Vistara Infinite, again just because of that 1.2L spend waiver and up to that initial spend, over that is better to switch to Magnus. On top of that CV Gold can be valuable, I'd find that value around 15k yearly in my use case but it will depend on how often you fly Vistara and use these perks, but I'll leave that out of the equation.

In example for my Gyftr/GrabDeals monthly purchases:
  • ForestEssentials/Marks&Spencers GrabDeals spends of ~3.5k-4k nets you 10k ER: 6.4k INR
  • Amazon Pay GV 10k INR (ER X3 so 1.8k ER): 1.1k INR
  • Amazon Shopping GV 10K INR (ER X5 so 3k ER): 1.9k INR
  • Swiggy GV 10k INR (ER X5 so 3k ER): 1.9k INR
Meet and Greet services which is of not much value domestically or mostly nominal value for most, the remaining benefits aren't very relevant to compare or any different.

So all in all, in that 1.2L spends you'll get better monetary value out of this Vistara Infinite promotion.

However most people here don't fly business and aren't willing to pay for it, it's more of a novelty experience. With the usual mindset around it's inefficient use of rewards as if they had points in lieu of the voucher they'd often book economy.

So most will find more value to have 40k CV points from a Magnus
(50k ER when optmizing spends) which equals to about 8 one-way domestic flights in the most common routes between metros on Vistara or about 5 one way flights on Air India (via United Mileage Plus). You might be able to get better rates from other StarAlliance airlines partners rather than United but it's also troublesome to book and usually has steep surcharge fees.

After that initial 1.2L you can get more value (and even CV points) per month on a Magnus (even without the milestone benefit) than on the Vistara Infinite. They oughtta fix that as there's not much value in Vistara Infinite compared to Magnus without this ongoing offer.

If you travel often and use TravelEdge or Gyftr for MMT/Yatra vouchers, that's a no brainer: go for Magnus.

Do mind these theoretical situations and spends are based on genuine and common use of a Magnus with 1L+ spends.

+1
and not to forget about the FFP options in case of Magnus.
For VI, you don't have an option for redemption but for Magnus, all FFPs are available.

Hi, wanted to check on United Mileage Plus. The points needed are very less when booking Air India flights through United Mileage Plus. What's the catch?

Compared to? Vistara? Vistara offers better rates but the problem is their flight network.

Their main hub being Delhi, followed by Mumbai. Very limited connectivity from Bangalore and almost nothing from Kolkata.

You'll get only connecting flights for most people living outside the hub cities which will make them more expensive points wise as they're charged by flight sector.

There are cases where there's a flight from Delhi/Mumbai to Port Blair with a shared flight number and a technical stop in Kolkata which are exempted, but other than that connecting flights will be charged individually for each sector.
