I've a Jt AC in HDFC Bank (with Preferred relationship as family member). Is it possible to change the variant to salary account online? If anybody has done it please share your experience.

Not sure if joint accounts are eligible for conversion. Someone else will clarify that.

But I would suggest you first check if your employer is tied up with HDFC. Then it can be possible, else no.

No. Joint A/c is not eligible for conversion from savings to salary.

You can check your employer linking status with HDFC through mobile app also.
Before login, click on more- salary account services

Joint accounts can't be converted to Salary accounts from what I know.

You can do it for individual account in you own name using the link below:

Note:- This only updates your employer (company) details initially and the account gets converted to Salary account only after it receives at least "two" consecutive salary credits from your employer.
You can call customer care after 2 salary credits and confirm once, just to be sure

In my personal opinion, customer care will usually ask you to go to the branch for salary account conversion or contact the RM for your company but it can be done online as well using this process easily

I visited bank branch regarding the conversion. They replied that you should do it from the mobile banking app itself. But when I asked customer care they said that the product code needs to be changed which can be done only via branch. The branch said to wait for a week and if it doesn't reflect they will update offline. Looks like I'll have to wait a week then. Has the online only method worked for anyone?

Nope it didn't work. I tried in May but it failed
Later was done through branch

Don't know why bank people harass customers

Here is my experience...I visited branch, my preferred banking RM adviced to link savings AC to payroll without converting it to salary. Weeks later I filled my employer's name in app (pre login)..after filling in details, the landing page clearly mentioned this will not change the account variant but only for existing salary ac holders who wish to change employer's name.
Surprisingly from the next month my account variant changed to premium salary, which I could confirm from smart statement. Then I got call from the bank asking vaguely if I am satisfied with their services and if I need salary account... By this time I changed my mind and said I dont need it. Next month's smart statement reflected my account as regular saving account again.
So I believe the variant changing can be initiated from app which needs to be confirmed by branch people.

How did you get to know that the account had converted to salary account? Did you manually check for it or received any email/sms for the same?

We get HDFC Bank Combined Email Statement every month, with a link to Smart Statement. Also in regular statements the account code is mentioned which can be verified by calling CC.
