Credit Card Bill Autopay Activate

I had activated my credit card bill auto payment but even after the bill was generated, my bill was not automatically paid, I had to wait till the due date of the bill and make the payment manually. My question is how credit card bill autopayment works, if anyone can tell me in detail it would be very helpful.

Which bank are u referring to? While setting autopay they asks for date on which bill will be paid. After 2-3 days of stmt generation or near to due date
