In Sept '24, a family member of mine was offered an LTF RBL Shoprite RUPAY credit card via a telemarketer, applied for it and got it. over the next 3 months he transacted a total of about 30,000 and paid the respective monthly statements before the due dates.
Suddenly on 14th Dec, he got an email stating that his card was permanently closed unilaterally by the bank and directing him to pay for the cards usage in December at the earliest (which wasn't billed yet, as card was closed by them in the middle of the month). Eventually, the statement was generated and the balance due is some 8,000 on the 3rd of Jan '25, we haven't paid yet.
On contacting the bank via email, no response was received.
On contacting the bank on the support number, they said they don't know why the card was closed, but it was due to the banks "internal policy".
Any inputs as to why the card was closed by the bank?
