DCB downgrade to Regalia - What happens to the Reward Points

Hi,

First post on the forum 😊

I am an HDFC Imperia customer and had a DCB plastic cc which was FYF. Then in second year I met the 5L spend criteria and got the fee waived off. But in the third year I could not meet the 5L criteria and had only spend about 3L. So, I sent an email to “hdfc cc grievance redressal” asking for an upgrade to LTF either on same card or to LTF DCB Metal. But, they rejected my request saying they are not issuing any LTF cards at the moment.
So then I asked if they could downgrade my card to Regalia as LTF; for which they told they can downgrade to Regalia Gold FYF. And I chose that option and agreed. Now they downgraded my card to Regalia(not gold) and I got the card just today.

I forgot to redeem my reward points before the conversion and didn’t even check how many points were there. Right now when I check the netbanking portal I see zero points under the DCB card and some 28k points under the new Regalia card. How do I know if they retained all my points or did some conversion? Is the reward points redemption same in both cards, did I miss out on something by not redeeming the points before downgrading?

Requesting the experts over here to please help me out with these(probably naive) questions.

Thanks 🙏

Below table explains for upgrade and downgrade as well.

As per this table, HDFC just transferred all the points of Diners Black to Regalia with 100% conversation. Points value of Regalia card is less then DCB so it's a loss for you unfortunately 🙁

Thanks for the reply @keyur11

Oh! I thought so, when they eagerly downgraded even before I replied to the email with consent. And that too to Regalia instead of Regalia Gold. Now when I sent them the consent, they replied saying they can upgrade my Regalia to Regalia Gold as FYF!!

I was so dumb to think only reward point accumulation rate is different between cards. How much is the loss do you know? What is the rupee conversion rate of DCB vs Regalia?

And is there any way I can redeem points in DCB because they converted it even before I sent them the consent email? Or is it just too cumbersome to request that over email?

Flights and hotel bookings via SmartBuy:
  • DCB : 1 RP = 1 Rs
  • Regalia : 1 RP = 0.5 Rs
Products and vouchers via NetBanking or SmartBuy:
  • DCB : 1 RP = Up to 0.5 Rs
  • Regalia : 1 RP = Up to 0.35 Rs
Redemption as cashback:
  • DCB : 1 RP = 0.3 Rs
  • Regalia : 1 RP = 0.2 Rs

If they give you Regalia Gold card and you are into Accor hotels then you can transfer points to Accor. In this case, points value will be similar. For DCB and Regalia Gold, 1 RP = 0.5 Accor points.

I don't have any idea on this. Ideally, points will act as per new card because they are already converted. You can try to explain them over email and see if they give you any option. I think it is better to give it a try considering 28k points.
