Denied by Amex For Smart Earn Despite Meeting All Criteria

I applied for an entry level Amex Smart earn card recently and despite thinking I checked all the boxes I got rejected.

Here’s my situation:
  • CIBIL score is 784 (which is supposed to be pretty good).
  • Already have credit cards with a combined limit of over ₹10 lakhs from other banks.
But they still said no. The reason? Something vague about my internal score not matching their approval criteria.

It’s frustrating when you meet all the criteria and still get denied.

If you mean I’ve taken out too many loans by that, I dont think so no. I’ve taken out a 5L loan on credit card on Apay ICICI and I’ve not missed one payment.
having a good cibil score alone doesnt mean you can get credit cards. Banks assess your DTI (debt to income ratio) since you have credit cards combined limit of 10 lakhs, what is your credit limit utilization and how frequent did you apply those credit cards. your income plays a vital role in approval of credit cards. you also took a loan of 5lakhs on a credit card which comes under quick access to funds so it creates an impression to banks that you're overleveraged so banks wont give you a credit card untill you clear few loans or pay the balances of your existing cards. i hope this helps you
