🚨 Devaluation Alert: Marriott Bonvoyed!

Reports confirm Marriott has increased points requirements for award nights at some or all properties by up to 50%!
The increases range from 15% to a staggering 50%, with some properties now costing 220k points at upper cap (up from 150k).

Bad news for #CCGeeks – the #Amex to Marriott #ccgeek pathway just got a little pricier, especially the Platinum Card Welcome Bonus, with no transfer bonus. 😂

Personally I have checked for one property i can see that 15 % is increased.

Is there any agreement between Amex and Marriott? On one side Amex is giving upto 150k reward points on upgrading to Platinum and launching 20x/25x promotion offers, on other side Marriott has increased redemption points from 20%-50% per reward night.

Marriott prices are dynamic in nature so due to holiday season, the prices could always differ.

I've seen the points requirements much higher in December. How is that a devaluation when they were always dynamic?

Yes, Its a combo "screw the customer" deal which both have entered into! Amex gives "better" offer with "higher" AFs and then Marriott devalues that offer by increasing the points required. Both laugh their way off 🙂 As they say, the House always wins!

I have learnt that whenever such mega offers come up, better not get very excited about it unless you have an immediate use of such points.

with all the various ppl flaunting their lakhs of marriot stays for minimum/negligible actual cash spent....ye toh hona hi tha...
It's more about the direction of economy going. Banks are here to make profit in their business not charity.
The banking system is on the brink of collapse unless serious action is taken to improve the economy.

This isn't a devaluation, but fluctuations in prices. Redemption rates depend on supply and demand amongst other factors, and these rates fluctuate heavily in general.

Some properties have increased the prices, including JW Masai Mara which now costs over 800k points for 5 nights, and some properties continue to offer rooms at the same rate. Prices for all of my international bookings are unchanged.

Roughly 2.5% to 3% of Marriott Bonvoy members are based in India, so this has very little to do with Platinum bonuses and all. We're not that significant enough of a clientele to drive them to raise prices.

Not sure where the data of 2-3% is coming from but an interesting statistics.
Having said that, Marriott is the / one of the biggest hotel chains in India. In that manner, India matters to Marriott and Marriott matters to India.

Of course the market matters, just like how Indian market matters to Apple and many other countries. All I am saying is, the country doesn't have that many members to begin with compared to overall numbers, to the extent that we can influence their decisions. China has more reasons to cause this, since they're diluting the status throughout the Asia. I don't know what kind of bonuses they're getting, but you can get Platinum Elite status by spending some $12 if you're a Chinese citizen.

Marriott is indeed the largest chain in India with 155 hotels, but it also operates over 9,300 hotels worldwide.
