Diners Club Privilege

TF Buzz
Hi,

I have LTF Diners Club Miles (5 Lacs limit) and been using it for more than 5 years. I also have 5+ year old basic saving a/c and decent amount of FDs with the bank.
I am getting emails of free upgrade to Diners Privilege card but thats only first year free.
I am willing to take it on possibility of converting it LTF. If they wont covert it to LTF later on i will have to close it as its not worth 2500+gst annual fee. Need suggestion or best course of action. Should i just keep the existing card as its the only core HDFC card I have.

Diners Privilege is insulted a lot around here but I personally think it is a fine upper-midrange card especially if you need to book hotels or take flights. If yes then HDFC SmartBuy comes into picture and lets you extract value from that card. If you don't travel at all then the card is pretty useless for you. There is also BOGO on BookMyShow using Diners Privilege.

Even for non travellers it’s a good dining card with decent reward redemption catalogue such as BBQ Nation, Absolute Barbeque, Dominos, etc

True! I didn't realize the dining benefits were special until you said it. Now it makes the card look even better -

- 5X Reward Points on Swiggy and Zomato (Regular reward rate is 4 Reward Points on Rs 150)
- Exclusive Privilege Dining Catalogue on select Restaurants via Smartbuy at a value of 1 RP = Rs 0.50. Click here to redeem (or) follow these steps: Visit offers.smartbuy.hdfcbank.com/diners >> Click on 'Diners Club Benefits' tab >> Select ‘Exclusive Dining Catalogue'

So, basically on a Rs 1500 Swiggy / Zomato bill you get 200 Reward Points which are worth Rs 100 if you redeem them for flight/hotels / dining vouchers. That's a 6.67% reward rate (excluding redemption charges, if any).

Yes. Using DCP on swiggy/Zomato is beneficial. Good returns.

I find the base reward rate of 1.33% also decent, provided it's accepted

Yes the best part about dining catalogue redemption is it can be redeemed in full unlike 70% rule for travel redemptions. Also one can double dip for HDFC dineout offer in swiggy hence its 5% flat + 6.65% in terms reward points. Beats Swiggy Card for this purpose.

Yes Eazydiner Signature and DCP are my go to dining cards. Also for big ticket spends such as insurance if one is able to hit quarterly milestone DCP’s yield is good where mostly as a spend it’s excluded in other cards.

For dining (where easy diner tie up is not there), I was thinking of using Bob premier which gives 10rp (₹2.5) per ₹100 spends. Useful upto spends of 20k per statement
