Discuss on asian paints competitors

Recently Asian paints has fallen drastically due to poor numbers and low margins. Its a elephant company too big to fall as per my opinion.

Many are trying to mention they are getting competition from Birla Opus. Birla is also a well known reputated and they already have birla white which is huge success so opening in the market is not a new thing / hurdle to birla opus.

Want to understand from other about the ground relaity of Birla opus, is the cost is less , or quantity is more, shades are more, quality, features or more etc.. in terms of usage perspective and also in terms of comparision with other paint companies.

please share share your thoughts to understand the ground reality.

I feel one more reason for fall is due to less urban consumption in premium segment. Previously, every one used to go Gaga over designer/premium paints.

These are high cost, more maintenance.

now people are going for Wall papers and Tiles instead of these premium paints.

If one business does well then all major companies want to come n play. That's how birla paints came to paints

The main problem is that birla gives more commission to dealers than other paints so others are getting hit in their margins

Also brila said about 10k c capex or investment guess for opening new manufacturing plant n this made Asian paints to fall 3%

Guess it was last week

Indigo paints did extremely well and not sure of their strategy to capture market in recent times before birla

Birla Opus is attacking Asian Paints on many levels
  • Birla Opus is giving 15-20 days credit period to its Distributors while Asian Paints is still giving earlier 5 days Credit Period
  • Opus is giving additional discounts, they are as FMCG players do. If you scan their paint bucket you will be given additional cashback. So, Buyer is preferring
  • This Scan and Get above is giving Birla Opus a good mapping of Customers
Further Negative points
  • Asian Paints is also putting fuel in fire by not exactly recognizing the issue, They are giving Macro reasons(Currency and Weather Lollipop). Further there is Volume as well as Value degrowth. Listen to their Earnings call Q2 2025
  • I saw Volume degrowth which I see a Major issue as even after giving Discounts on Asian Paints Average Prices theyt are still not able to sell YOY at the same levels
What next?
  • I see PE to get cheaper of Asian Paints
  • You won't be able to participate in Birla Opus as it is not directly listed but a part of business Grasim owns.
