Hi everyone, I wanted to share this insight from my personal travel experience in March. I am talking about the tie-up promotion (called Your World Rewards) between Emirates Skywards and Marriott BonVoy. You need to link up your BonVoy account with Skywards which enables you to earn miles/ points on both platforms for activity undertaken on either of them.
EDIT: Thanks @Ankur dhanda for pointing this out. His post made me dig for the details of Your World Rewards T&C. Have also annexed the pdf in case anyone wants to read the fine print. In essence, you have to be minimum Skywards Silver member to earn miles on Marriott stays. Similarly, you have to be minimum BonVoy Gold Elite member to earn points on Emirates flights. I guess this does make this double dip opportunity less attractive 🙁 sorry, if I got everyone excited.
I flew Emirates Business (return) between Delhi - London in March for work. Luckily I got to know about this tie-up a few days before my travel and I immediately submitted my request to link my BonVoy and Skywards. Unfortunately, the site does not always work and I could submit my request only on my third attempt. Even after linking, no intimation is sent via email. Even when I log in to my Skywards account, it still reflects as if no linking is there and the button to link both accounts is still active. In other words, I was not sure if the linking was done in their systems. Given that it is double dip, I left it to chance and did not bother with any follow-ups with customer service.
For each leg of the journey, I earned 6563 Skywards miles (total of 13,126 miles) which were reflected in my Emirates account after 3-4 days of completion of each leg of travel. I checked my BonVoy account after 10 days or so but no points were visible leading me to think that my linking had not gone through and left it at that.
I happened to check my BonVoy account again today and to my complete surprise, I saw 2 credits of 5622 points each (one dated 18th April and other dated 23rd May) which is a great earn rate. I think this is great way to double dip and earn points on both the programs.
I have an upcoming international travel to Singapore where I am staying at Westin. I will update the post if I earn any Skywards miles on that stay... (EDIT - Since I am still Skywards Blue member, I now understand I will not earn any miles on this stay)
