Experience with renewal of Amex Reserve

Hey folks, I have been an Amex Plat. Reserve holder for 5 years now, and it was time for my renewal. So I wanted to share my fairly bizarre experience so far with this renewal

  • March 29: Email that says, "We'll be sending you a renewal Card soon"
  • ~ a month and a half passes ~
  • May 14: I noticed that the app and website had updated to show the new card design, so I contacted their customer service to see if they already sent me the renewal card. They said they hadn't.
  • May 25: I got an email that says, "Reminder: Activate your new Card today". The app updates to show that a renewal card has been requested.
  • May 28: Still not having received the card, I contact customer support. They say "the system issued the renewal card to the registered address on file." When I insisted on a tracking number, they said, "Tracking number gets available only when we manually replace the card. Since it is auto-issued renewal card, no tracking details are found."
  • May 30: I got an email that says, "Your renewal Card is ready to ship". In the app and on email, there is a clear tracker that shows a Blue Dart tracking number.
  • May 31: I got the card. It's the old design.
So, I want to highlight two important things:
  1. Tracking details are indeed visible, even for auto-renewed cards. Don't be scared by the super early emails, the tracker on the app is the source of truth.
  2. Customer support is kinda clueless, as I suspected. They were encouraging me to cancel the card and get a manual replacement, but I am glad I didn't, so I could retain the same number.
And finally, we still don't have the new design 🙁
 
I didn't get any offers - I did not know there usually is one :O
(I am getting the standard offers in the app all the time, like the upgrade offer to platinum with 125k MR points, etc)
