Google One subscription: Change payment method - Query and Discussion

Hello,
I need help with my Google One subscription. Let me explain the current situation.
I have been making payments for a 200 GB Google One subscription using my Amazon Pay ICICI card, and it has been automatically deducted for the past 2 years.

After learning that I can use play balance to pay for this, I cancelled the standing instruction from SI Hub.
However, I am unable to change the payment method on https://payments.google.com/gp/w/home/subscriptionsandservices.
Although the option to change the payment method is shown, I have never been able to switch to play balance.
It always prompts me to add another debit or credit card.

One option I am considering is to let the current plan expire and hopefully it won't be automatically deducted from the saved credit card (current payment method).
Then, I can purchase a new Google One plan using my pay balance.
Is there any other method to change the payment method? I tried raising a ticket, but Google Support has not been helpful in this matter.

This happened to me two years back. Customer support replied let the current subscription lapse. Then, subscribe to it fresh with a different payment method.
That's a relief. Thanks. That is sure right?
Because since I don't see Play Balance option now, I am doubtful when I renew after it gets expires, will I see the Play Balance option?

I can only speak from experience. On two occassions, I couldn't see Google Play balance. On both occasions, I had to end my subscription and re-subscribe with a new payment method (Google One and YouTube Premium, the former is no longer subscribed).

I did exactly the same this month. Do it through a desktop on google one website.
First cancel the subscription and then choose new subscription and switch payment method to g play balance

Open play store, click on icon in top right, click on payments and subscriptions, click on subscriptions, click on your subscription i.e. google one in this case, then at the bottom cancel subscription button is there.. this is all steps if you do on Android mobile device. Also plan will be valid till expiry

How to cancel existing subscription? @abhiaj98 @lovecards you mean cancel in Google one or card's standing instruction? I explored in many pages, couldn't find how to cancel active google one subscription. Also, if I cancel Google one subscription today, will I loose 200gb or it will be valid till plan expiry (my renewal is in July 2025)
If using ios you need to do it through desktop web browser
