HDFC Credit Cards HDFC Regalia Forex Card for Vietnam Trip 🇻🇳

Hi All,

I’ve upcoming trip by end of Mar25 to Vietnam - have applied for Regalia Forexplus Card considering 5X Reward Multiplier (HDFC Diners Privelege) load-unload. I’ve loaded 25k (286 USD) for activities food (8 days) rest all hotels - flight - stays prebooked via Amex Plat travel card.

1. My query is people mention it is cash king place, what % of tx will be accepted via CC/Forex card ?
2. As per website it is mentioned (4 USD + GST) Atm withdrawal charges what is the exact amount charged and any suggestion from where to withdraw cash ?
3. Should I carry additional USD cash or forex card loading will suffice ?
4. Shall I apply for Au Ixigo card/scapia or HDFC GVP for additional 1% int spends + 500 CB ?

I recently went on a trip to Vietnam for 8 days. Diners Club is not accepted in 99% of the places there. Use a Visa/Mastercard.

1) Cards are generally accepted in cities but some of them charge 4% extra. So I would say card and cash usage is 50-50. Always have cash with you or make sure you can reload Forex if required.
2) Yes, ATMs do charge $4 for every transaction except for TP Bank and VP Bank ATMs. There are plenty of other ATMs and avoid using them. Find these 2 banks on Google.
3) I would say ~5k INR per day per couple is required there for decent food coffee travel etc. Depends on individual again.
4) GVP doesn't make sense as DC is not accepted anywhere. Load your Forex with more USDs or just carry them.

Thanks for the detailed input - means a lot mate. I am carrying HDFC Regalia Forex Plus card (have loaded money from Dinners Privelege in that) will I need other scapia/au ixigo as well or HDFC Regalia Forex Card (USD) acceptance is also an issue ?

I have my stays - flight (76k) prebooked - (80k) additionally added for 8 nights 9 days trip - loaded in forex card for activities food shopping misc. things. Will that be okay ?

Haan bhai regalia forex card me usd hi load karwaya hu - 5X points milra HDFC Bank ka offer chalra for forex card 20 RP/150 isliye using it

Vaha jake kaise karna hai forex card best use uska thoda understanding chaiye tha - atm me VND currency hi niklega - if I’ve loaded usd in the forex card any possibility to get usd in vietnam

HDFC Regalia Forex Plus card should not be an issue as it is VISA/Master card variant. Your DCP (I also hold this!) is Discovery variant and it is not accepted anywhere over there.

80k in forex card should be good for Food and activities. Always try to book via Klook app ( you can do that just one day prior from there depending on your schedule) coz if you go to their booking offices/agents, they demand cash. You can book via Forex card on Klook. Also add your card to Grab app for taxis, this really helps. Usually people are friendly and they do not cheat, but they do ask for 4% additional if you swipe card. Also, your bargaining skills will be handy here 😀 Slash 60-70% straight away when you are street shopping.

I used NIUM forex card by Make My Forex ( I would not recommend) which had 3 free ATM withdrawals. Best way is to withdraw more cash at once.

Vp bank and tp bank have 0 fees. Hdfc will charge you 4.72 usd including gst per withdrawal. Most local restaurants cafes won't accept cc payments. Convenience stores cafe chains airport shops etc do. Depends on where you plan to spend. Vp bank and tp bank are very rare though have to go out of your way to find them. Next best is agribank and sacom bank which charge 20k to 50k which is like 70 to 170 rs. Airport ATMs are horrible,at Saigon HSBC was charging 100k, some also charge in straight up percentage ratio so be aware of those.

I got a sim at a local vinaphone store they accept cc. So does airport grab booking so I could wait to reach tp bank atm.

Thanks will check tp vp bank atm, how about to get local sim ? From airport or city as need to do grab booking.

Also do you use HDFC Regalia forex how was your experience ? Shall I get some other card too like (au ixigo / scapia) or withdraw 50k in usd/vnd from atm directly (4.74 usd)
