HDFC Swiggy giving 1% cashback on certain amazon purchases

I noticed a discrepancy in cashback credited post the generation of the latest statement of my HDFC Swiggy card. I took this card primarily for Swiggy transactions so nearly 99% of the cashback falls into the 10% category. The only non-10% transaction I do with this card is on amazon. Last month, I made two purchases on amazon; one worth ₹1599 and one worth ₹399 (attached statement screenshot).

Both of these were regular amazon shopping transactions, but I received 5% cashback for the ₹1599 transaction but only 1% for the transaction worth ₹399. I know that amazon fresh, amazon pharmacy, etc have different MCCs, but do regular amazon shopping transactions also have variable MCCs?

YES, verified it myself. The MCC amazon presents on the payment page depends on what's in your cart. If all the items in your cart fall under groceries, you'll get a grocery MCC. Same goes for most other categories. But in case your cart has items from more than one category, you'll get MCC 5399 (General Merchandise), etc.

"Pvt L" wali txn grocery mai count hui hai.

OTP SMS mai ayega "amazon.in"

Txn ke baad jo debit SMS aayega usse pta chlega Grocery hai (First Txn in your case) ya Apparel(Second Txn in your Case) ya phir General Shopping🤣


My recommendation is First buy AGV and then do shopping. Avoid Merchant name "AMAZON" for GV Purchases.

hi bro how many times in a month should we buy gift cards from Amazon with sbi cc/ hdfc swiggy? Asking because in some accounts Amazon disables the credit card option!!

1. Amazon gift card purchased on 26.8 gives 5% cashback
2. Mobile purchased using Flipkart giftcard and remaining 7450/- by Swiggy card on 28.8 for which got only 74.5 cashback.. 'Flipkart internet PVT Bangalore' gives only 1%.cashback
