Okay, I had visited Europe a couple of months ago. I had researched esim.me and their reviews were mixed. There were instances where people couldn't activate it or had other issues. I am not sure about the other one though. Ultimately, I ended up paying 899 for the Airtel's ISD pack.

You could go the usual route and recharge your Airtel or Jio sim for their respective ISD packs. Airtel was the better option as they included 1 GB of data and had better coverage. Wi-Fi is available in almost all places and data is only required during transit. The 1 GB data turned out to be more than sufficient.

Now eSIM is the cutting edge technology that is eliminating the need for SIM swap. Zetexa eSIM allows users to stay connected in 180 countries with ease. Just Select country > Buy Plan > Install with QR code. Zetexa eSIM works good with Android and IOS devices and is highly secure. I have used Zetexa eSIM and it provides Limited and Unlimited plans at reasonable prices.

I purchased orange esim while travelling to France in 2023. The experience was fantastic, I could setup everything before I start the international travel, and as soon as my plane landed in Paris, I had internet connection.

This sale season I wanted to buy a new phone, and my first criteria was to have esim capability in the phone.

Whenever I land to a new country:

1. Switch on international roaming on personal sim (so that I can receive important calls)
2. Get internet through silent.link
I usually buy from trip.com on airport itself before boarding the plane but this kind of emergency eSIM is a great idea. But $9 for initial access from silent.link seems a bit high. What is the data limit for this one?
You can probably find cheaper options on https://esimdb.com for such emergency access. Eg: global eSIM from keepgo gives you 2GB(1+1 free) with no expiration at $8.

I believe since Apr around, that is start of this FY.
Interesting. Airtel has postpaid only plan for unlimited data @2999 for 10 days with fair usage policy. Vi has 7 days plan min @3495.

Good initiative but I think the price is just too high and utility is limited to a few people who keep streaming everything they see or constant video call during travel.
For majority, 1-5 GB per week plans are sufficient as most hotels etc. have WiFi these days. The focus of international data pack should be on validity and not on data limit.

Also, other than having a small backup, global plans are costly and not that useful. Most people go to specific country or region and it's cheaper to get eSIM just for that. Check this eSIM for Thailand for example. Unlimited data/calls for 15 days @1786.
