Most merchants don't accept AmEx.

And those who charge extra fees, charge even higher when they see the AmEx card.

It happened to me at a crockery store two months back. I told them that I'd like to use cc. They told me there would be 2% charges extra (the trnx was only 12000, I believe). I told them I'd pay 1%. They said it was fine and that I used my Rubyx Amex instead of my Axis Ace.
