JAL to book flight from Delhi to Tokyo airmiles plus money or only airmiles?

Hi I just got my JAL card and logged in to check how many miles needed for a round trip for two people. Have you guys booked any flight using airmiles? Since I have not made the transfer of my edge points to JAL, it won't let me go to the next step. Do I need only 70000 airmiles? Or do I need Both airmiles and money (50k)?

How many days before should I transfer my edge points in order to get the JAL airmiles into the account?
I assume these flight prices also keep increasing as the date approaches.

Please provide your valuable advice.

You will need both 70k miles + 50K INR, it is the same across various airlines on miles redemption.
This is right.

You might want to explore some other options with more mileage and lesser tax, if u value miles at less than 1 rupees.

For JAL, there is normally cooldown period of 60 days before booking partner award flights. Not sure if same is applicable for its own award flights or not.

Axis to JAL takes anywhere from 2 days to 2 weeks.

Award flights mileage is mostly constant for most programmes. But availablity is more concern, as there are only 2-6 seats on each flight for award booking.

Thanks for the info man. I have 3L edge points in my Magnus card count. I guess club vistara is the only way to redeem to extract meaningful value. For a value credit card user I guess the vietjet flights are a better option for a trip to Japan

I also wonder can one book using air India flying returns?. How would many airmiles would I require there. and how much money?

No idea on tax for that. But I see miles is mentioned as 35K each side, when booked 3 month in advance. So points are double of JAL. Taxes maybe lesser, but it doesn't show that without sufficient miles.

If u go on JAL with some oneworld partner, it is around 47K miles plus 12K taxes for round trip. So that will save some money. But additional layover time.

Check out this post. Quite comprehensive.

Some highlights for one-way -
Korean Air via Virgin Atlantic Miles - 22.5K points + 2K INR - Not an Axis partner

JAL via JAL - 17.5K points+ 12K INR

Malaysian airlines via Flying Blue - 39.5K points + 5K INR

Srilankan/Japan/Cathay via American airlines - 22.5K + 1.5-2.5K INR - Not an Axis partner

ANA/Singapore/Thai on United - 35K points + 2K INR

Singapore/ANA/Air India on Singapore - 43K points+ 2K INR

Air india/ ANA/Thai on Avianca - 30K points+ 2K INR - Not an Axis partner

JAL on Emirates - 26K miles + 3K INR - Not an Axis partner

Air india on aeroplan - 40K miles + 4K INR

Revenue booking is usually around 25K one-way.

If I consider only axis partners, there are 2 main options. JAL via JAL - 17.5K points+ 12K INR AND ANA/Singapore/Thai on United - 35K points + 2K INR. For 17.5K additional points, u save 10K INR. i.e. 0.57 per mile. So, see how much u value each mile. I might prefer JAL on JAL for a direct flight. But if I have too many miles, I might settle with Singapore on United with additional benefit of free cancellation.
