Issue Resolved Jio Fiber denied refund! Credit card dispute saved me.

The highlighted issue has been resolved by the bank/financial institution.

Last month (December), I paid my Jio Fiber postpaid bill via BBPS. Later, the amount was again deducted from my Standard Chartered bank account through the auto-payment facility. I had forgotten to stop the auto-payment, so I contacted Jio for a refund of the duplicate payment.

However, Jio denied the refund, stating they do not have a refund policy and that the amount would be considered as an advance payment. I reached out to Jio’s Twitter handle and received the same response. Contacting the Jio appellate resulted in a similar reply.

How can Jio implicitly consider a duplicate payment as advance payment? I strongly disagree with this shady practice. I decided to try a credit card dispute, and if unsuccessful, planned to escalate the issue to the consumer helpline. Thanks @TechnoFino for the inspiration.

I raised a dispute with Standard Chartered bank, sharing details of the duplicate payment along with the email communication from Jio.

On the third day after filing the dispute, the amount was credited back to my card account.

It's not just jio. Most of the products of jio and related are *Jumla* they are the best on paper but shady on inside.

bhai.....desh mein 2 badi chor company hain, unka koi kuch nahin ukhad sakta...Unse dori bana ke rakho....baki aap khud samajhdar ho
 
We should consider ourselves lucky for being able to use CC with such merchants, I have a similar story:
  • Applied for a Jio fiber connection during sept 24
  • Executive visited next day, told that airfiber only is possible. I said ok, Paid 3.5k for their 3 months plan (lowest duration on offer)
  • Executive promised installation same day, which was not done and they stopped picking up my calls.
  • Ignored it for a week with occasional calls to the executive.
  • Exactly after 8 days, got mails and sms that my connection was installed and activated.
  • Raised to their mails/ twitter to tell them that the connection was not installed and was activated from somewhere else and now that this has transpired i was not comfy moving on with them and requested to refund my money.
  • Was told that the service engineer will come and visit (for even refund issuance)
  • the ground team started to roll over my appointments all scheduled at 11 pm, Nobody came.
  • Got in touch with AMEX chat for raising a dispute ( my bad) did not know about the form option.
  • AMEX support did not raise a dispute for the first two attempts citing jio a big merchant wont do this and asking me to wait for some more time.
  • frustrated, i called them and got a good support guy who raised a dispute.
  • I did not get their mail to share the documents with them, so contacted them again to ask for the mail id. The support agent raised another dispute(2).
  • I was told that i should get a mail post sharing docs which i still did not get, I contacted them to check status and the support agent raised another dispute (3)
  • i did not know about disputes 2 & 3 and was waiting for a decision on 1.
  • After 15 odd days, dispute 1 was closed as duplicate.
  • got furious and gave an essay mail to the head customer service at amex with all chat and call dates, meanwhile dispute 2 got approved and got my permanent credit
  • Head cust service guy called, did not own the mistakes , told they will try and prevent re occurrence.
  • JIO was still billing me for 3 months and their ground staff were spamming me with calls to try and get an okay for the device installation - they were getting issues with activating a connection without installing it first from their regional office.
  • I had raised a query with NCH which ended up making a corporate person from Jio mumbai call me, It was the first sane person i talked there. She understood the issues and still asked me if i am okay with them installing the device :|
  • Then i had to share with them the uninstallation otp, post which they finally accepted their mistake in mail and i left it to rest.
Cautionary tale for anyone trusting any corporate blindly.

Hmm. The same happened last time with AirtelFiber, nobody came for installation, and I had to raise NCH for getting the refund.

Faster resolution is via cc dispute. Do all communication via email and these will serve as a proof for dispute.
