Recently had a great experience of staying at one of the most beautiful properties- Taj Chia Kutir. March first week, took our anniversary trip to Bhutan and had an amazing time. Since we were travelling via road to Bhutan from bagdogra, and were supposed to be returning on our anniversary day only, we decided to extend the trip for 1 day and take a staycation in Taj chia kutir which was just 1 hour drive from Bagdogra airport and what a treat it turned out to be.
How to reach- Just one hour drive from Bagdogra airport, 40 minutes of which is plains and 20 minutes of very steep hill drive. The hill drive is so steep that only experienced driver could've drove on those hills. Someone like me who has driven enough in north indian hill stations like mussorie, shimla and manali would've struggled a lot if i were to drive myself.
The Property- The entrance does not give out much but as soon as we cross the welcome porch and enter into the lounge area where check in formalities are done, what awaits you is a breathtaking views of makaibara tea estate and valleys around it. Serenity at its core. Honestly, we could've just sat there for couple of hours after our check in was done without any need to go to the room.
Although were promised a room upgrade over call few weeks before we were supposed to check in, but upon reaching were told that due to the property being almost sold out, room upgrade was not possible. However the front office guy told us that our room is one with one of the best view room of the property and assured us we won't be disapponyed and he was correct. The room was decorated for our anniversary, had great views of the valleys, was spacious and all things nice. video attached for your reference.
We were 2 couples with a kid each and while we were having lunch at their all day dining restaurant, were told by the staff that food for children below 5 years are complimentary and offered to bring pasta and aloo paratha for them even without us asking.
They have a tea tasting session from 3-4 pm where representatives from makai bara come and make you taste few different varities of teas and also tell about the plantations, techniques, types and history of makai bara. Apparently their is the only Indian brand gift that is given away to the guests of Royal family at the kings coronation ceremony. 4-5 is complimentary high tea. It had 1 hot snack, cookies tea cakes, some local dry snacks. Also had an option to order hot chocolate for kids. During evening hours, they had an hour long live music performance at the lounge area where a flute player was playing very soothing music and families were enjoying the music, playing board games or just relaxing. They also have an indoor temperature controlled pool which was beautiful. Again the staff was exceptional. Very prompt, helped us and kids without us asking and even dried our wet clothes in the dryer while we changed. Apart from these, the property also had lot of other activities like morning trek, tea garden visit, archery, cycling etc which we couldn’t do.
Dining Options- Apart from their all day dining restaurant, they also have a specialty restaurant “Sonargaon” for north Indian and Bengali cuisine. We had dinner included in our package and we requested them to shift our dinner from all day dining buffet to Sonargaon wo which they eventually agreed as a gesture for our anniversary. The food was great in Sonargaon, specially dal Sonargaon was to die for. The breakfast buffet the next day was one of the tastiest breakfast buffet I’ve ever had. Couple of new local dishes were also there , and overall each and every item in the menu was amazingly tasty.
Verdict- The hospitality at the property is top notch and every guest is made to feel like royalty. Each staff will go all the way to make your stay as comfortable as possible. The resort itself is in a beautiful surrounding and many activities to do to enjoy couple of days of pure bliss. Must Must visti!
