Devaluation No reward points on Digital Gaming Platforms/Merchants w.e.f. 1 Dec'24

SBI Card devalued several cards in one go. No reward points on Digital Gaming Platforms/Merchants w.e.f. 1 Dec'24. The list includes all range of cards including AURUM, ELITE, PRIME, SimplyCLICK, SimplySAVE. Fortunately, Cashback SBI card is NOT in the list.

There is no list of MCC shared by SBI Card but probably they may target below given MCC(s)

5816 Digital Goods – Games
5945 Hobby, Toy, and Game Shops
7993 Video Amusement Game Supplies
7994 Video Game Arcades/Establishments

Why are they targeting digital gaming? I can understand other categories like rent utilities, education, gold etc. But digital gaming?

Makes sense. Also saw in another thread that this is because of some rotation apps using this MCC.

Transactions on Digital Gaming Platforms/ Merchants shall be identified under Merchant Category Codes (MCC) 5816, 7993 and 7994, on best effort basis. The MCCs are defined by the network partners and are subject to change basis their discretion and such changes shall be implemented basis communication from the networks without any requirement for intimation / information to the customers.
