PhonePe enables UPI activation and UPI PIN set/reset with Aadhaar based OTP:

PhonePe has announced that it has enabled UPI activation using Aadhaar-based OTP authentication. PhonePe claims that it is the first UPI TPAP App to roll out the Aadhaar-based UPI onboarding flow that will now enable several crore Indians to become a part of the UPI ecosystem, seamlessly and securely for the first time.

Under the previous UPI onboarding flow, a valid debit card was mandatory to set up a user’s UPI PIN during the UPI registration process, restricting access for a large number of Indian bank account holders who didn’t have a debit card handy. This makes Aadhaar e-KYC flow a part of the UPI onboarding journey on the PhonePe App. Users choosing this option will need to enter the last 6 digits of their Aadhaar number to initiate the onboarding process. They will then receive an OTP from UIDAI, and their respective bank to complete the authentication process. Post this, customers will be able to access all UPI features such as payments and balance check on the PhonePe App.

Phonepe also closely working with NPCI to take UPI international.

The good thing is we can use phonepe for registering upi first time/pin change and can use our existing apps like gpay for transactions.

Is this deployed? I tried with my PNB bank account but didn't find the aadhaar link method.
I opened a pnb account 2 weeks ago. Apart from last 4 digits of the acc number, I have no information about account 😶


UPDATE: I can see the aadhaar linking option in BHIM UPI app but after entering adhaar number it will show Error Occurred Message

UPDATE 2:
Currently, there are a handful of banks that support the new Aadhar-based UPI PIN service. If you've got a bank account in one of these banks, you should be able to set and register your UPI PIN via Aadhar card. The banks are as follows.

IndusInd Bank
Kerala Gramin Bank
Karnataka Gramin Bank
Canara Bank
Karur Vysya Bank
Rajasthan Cooperative Bank

trying to set pnb upi pin with aadhar on bhim upi app from last 5-7 days..
after entering aadhar no.. error comes and redirected to homepage but otp came from both uidai and pnb to set upi pin..

I wish the antiquated Bank of India and Bank of Maharashtra supported Aadhaar OTP based UPI because they have been unable to provide debit cards to millions of customers for well over a year. Pathetic sarkari banks.
