PS: Putting this here since I didn't get a response in general forum

I have made a Fairmont mara booking in Kenya for 4 days. For some reason, it seems like the booking was a prepaid/ advanced saver booking (I am not sure what this is).when I call customer care they are not sure whether I can burn my points for this booking. I emailed the hotel directly and they replied that I can burn points for this booking(not sure they understand whether it's advanced saver booking). Meantime I have booked flights from hyd to Nairobi. I called accor a 2nd time, again they are still not sure whether I can burn points or not. What to do?

Also this is the first time I am redeeming accor points.

You have it from them in writing. What more do you need? 🙂

Replied in the general forum.
The property is bookable with points, even at the Advanced Saver rate. Why didn't you use points during the booking?

Email them to let them know you'll be paying with points and ask them not to charge your card. Disable international transactions. Even if the charge fails, they'll usually contact you to arrange payment through alternative methods.
When I was trying to book I believe that was the only thing that I got i.e. through credit card. Points booking was not showing for me. Attaching their email reply here. Ok will disable international payments on my card. Thanks.

My wife and kids will be traveling with me so that's why worried a bit.
So what are you expecting from them? A notarized document - with a death penalty?

Every travel is a risk and has it's own unique complexities and challenges... live a little man. 🙂

Also if you're really really really really really worried - ask them to go ahead and deduct your payment and see what they say. But that's risky in itself.

Block your international transactions. Sometimes, even if you send an email, they might still charge you. But when the charge fails, they will definitely contact you.
This is a bad idea. If they are not able to validate your card for the booking and they're unable to reach you. They may cancel the booking. You don't want to land up in Nairobi and not have a room available.

Then they will charge you and they might not reverse it. You will get a message from axis if a charge gets declined. Contact the property if that happens.

Both scenarios happened for me:

They charged me via POS. I have international POS disabled. So they mailed me to pay it via other sources.

They charged me even though I have a confirmed mail from them that I can pay with points. But they later reversed the charges.

The best way is to write a mail to property , requesting them to not charge your cards as you would pay with points
Also send a reminder mail to them 2-3 days prior to your arrival to not charge your card

You can pay by points no issues

In mara right now. Trying to burn points since last 2 days but they're coming back saying link is down. Will try tomorrow and see if it works.

please keep us informed.
I have booked rooms in NZ. For one of the booking for two nights, one was free night and I could not pay using points for second night.
I called the cusotmer care, they said I can pay when i check-in..

Today again they were saying that the link is not working, so I threatened them saying to tell me the exact problem so that I can raise it with accor (this was a bluff since I don't have accor email address nor do they reply on tweets) within 15 mins their manager came and the link was magically up and I was able to redeem the whole thing. Except some change that I paid through card. I feel mara being a tourist destination as such some level of scamming is there like not being informed about conservation fees explicitly along with numerous other charges.

Also, When the manager saw the amount of points I had, he and the hotel staff were asking how I got all those points with accor classic status only and it's not possible as per them with basic status. So maybe it's better to get accor plus to avoid these questions/answers.

Btw if anyone going for mara ask for mosaka as guide. The guy is a Surya Kumar yadav of tracking animals, i.e. makes everyone else look bad.
