Looks like the RBI is planning a major change in how our credit scores are updated. As per the new draft guidelines, credit information companies may soon have to refresh credit scores every week instead of the current once-in-15-days cycle.

The idea behind this move is to make credit data more accurate and timely. Faster updates mean your recent repayments will reflect sooner, which could help borrowers get loans or increase credit limits without unnecessary delays. For lenders, this also improves risk assessment since they’ll be working with fresher data.

As per the Draft Credit Information Reporting (1st Amendment) Directions, 2025, released on 29 September 2025, all credit bureaus — including TransUnion CIBIL and other RBI-approved agencies — will need to update credit reports on the 7th, 14th, 21st, 28th and the last day of each month.

If everything goes as planned, these changes are expected to become effective from 1 April 2026.
Overall, seems like a positive step for both borrowers and lenders.
What do you all think — will weekly updates really make a noticeable difference?
