Recurring / tokenised charges

Has anyone had trouble (or success!) with recurring payments on your Amex card?

In short:
I was able to set up auto pay on Vodafone and subscription on Spotify and to enable the tokenised transactions on Uber and Amazon

But when it comes to:
  • Zomato - The card gets verified (ie I enter the OTP and the 2 rupees get charged and the card gets saved) but when I want to pay for an order using the saved card I enter the OTP and then "something went wrong". If I delete the card and add it again, I can do one transaction ok. But if I want to use the card after it's saved, then no luck.
  • Netflix - I enter the card details and then the OTP and then "there appears to be a problem with your card". I must have tried at least 20 times!
By the way, both of these worked just fine before when I was using a Visa card - and they work fine again now once I added the Visa card back.

Maybe I am doing something wrong? Or not doing something? Doesn't make sense to me!

Amex supports only certain merchants for recurring payments. Netflix isn't one.

Ah! Did not know that and now it makes sense! Thank you.

(What did not make sense is Netflix not saying this and listing Amex as an option and the Netflix helpdesk cartoon wasting my time by making me do the same thing over and over again!)

You can view merchant list here.

Thanks again for that. I would never have found it otherwise!

Still makes no sense why the Netflixwallah kept making me try again and again. I guess I'm the bigger fool for wasting my own time.

But regarding something like a Zomato, where it's not a recurring transaction, but simply a "No CVV needed" situation, any clue why the transaction gets declined after I enter the OTP?
