So @creditguru tried applying for a Gold charge card using my referral yesterday. He already holds a Platinum travel card. He was then contacted by an executive who said that he can only apply for Gold charge after 3 months. He can apply for MRCC or SmartEarn after his first Platinum travel card bill is generated which is on the 2nd of Feb. The executive mentioned that he can use the same referral application after the 2nd to switch to MRCC. Does Amex allow changing card variants in the same application?

Yup, that's the summary. I was also aware that they do approve back to back applications.

There were many people who applied all the 3 cards in a row within 30 days and got them approved.

No. As far as I know, he got Platinum travel as his first AMEX card this or last month since his first bill will be generated on the 2nd of Feb.

I didn't hear this kind of scenario before, but it may be possible..

Yes, even I have not heard of this so thought I will check. But even for MRCC, the executive said that he has to wait till Feb 2nd after which the card type can be changed in the same application. Now, I do not know for how long Amex keeps applications open.

they can keep it open for upto 30 days after which it gets expired / cancelled.

Not in 90 days but last year firat quarter, they rejected the application because of tier 3 city. Then in December I applied through airport kiosk.

They do keep it open for atleast 30 days, last year when my application was rejected, they sent me mails for almost a month to submit another address proof.
