Axis Atlas Reliance Digital transaction using Axis ATLAS card counted as Jewellery transaction

Hello,

I have recently done one transaction on Reliance Digital website for Mobile purchase. I did this transaction using Axis ATLAS card but I did not get any Edge miles so I called Axis support for checking this issue. Axis support person told me that transaction was in Jewellery category (MCC 5944) so there will be no Edge miles on this transaction.

Can anyone help me if there is any way to get Edge miles on this transaction? Did anyone face this type of issue with Reliance Digital website?

Well the answer is yes and no also.

Sometimes when you send them invoices/bills and proofs of what u actually ordered, they might credits you miles, but sometimes not.

So, it's a hit or miss, bcs no fault of bank here. The merchant is assigned/using wrong MCC(Merchant category code) which is responsible for RPs earning.

So don't thought of stretching this matter.

Same happened with me as well. Bought room Heater & Dash Cam on Reliancedigital.in through Axis Grab Deal & used the Axis Atals . No Edge Miles received citing its exclusion as Jewellery (MCC). Approached Reliancedigital.in CC they noted issue but 1 month passed & they're not providing resolution. Technically Bank has no fault as its Merchant who set the MCC. Confused whom to approach for this issue & to get Edge Miles 🤔

Issuer bank has no fault. But fault lies at acquirer bank or fintech providing payment gateway / terminal to merchant. This is usually set by some one at acquirer bank / fintech in their system. Most merchants may not be aware of mcc code.

We can't reach merchant acquirer bank or fintech on merchant side. We will need to reach merchant (as you did) and motivate them to get it changed. Lets assume merchant does (not really) hard work and get mcc code updated for his terminal, it wil only be applicable only for future transactions. It can not update transactions on issuer bank side. And big merchant may have more than one acquirer banks. Issue may be for one or more service provider.

Looks like Reliance is doing it purposefully to save on MDR fee. I think that MDR is less for Jewelry than electronics. We as a consumer have to bear loss due to this 🙁

Or its just because we use Axis Grab Deal Portal which renderred Reliancedigital.in to mark it as Jewellery so that customer can't reap Double Dip ? What is MCC for Reliancedigital.in if we directly shop their ?

I did shopping directly on Reliancedigital.in but still it picked up Jewelry MCC. This is issue from Reliance digital as per my understanding.

Reliancedigital.in said the correcr MCC is 5732 which is Electronics & advised to contact bank for discrepancy in MCC (billed as Jewellery) .

Check with your card bank if they get merchant id (mid) and if it matches in transaction. Else you may also need terminal id (tid) from reliance.
