RuPay Select Debit Card Airport Lounge Access Devaluation:

Domestic Airport lounge program for RuPay Select Debit Card provides access to card holders one (1 ) time per calendar quarter per card in any of the participating Domestic Airport lounges.

I didn't find any other changes. Everything else is the same and renewed for the next financial year 2025-2026.

Lounge access via Priority Pass costs Rs. 1,275 for banks. Wow! That's too expensive.

Rupay ka bhi (shighra) Patan chalu...

Rs 250/- per annum is what npci will bill to issuing banks for a Rupay card.

Utilization percentage is capped between 1-3%, it means they expect only 1 out 100 will actually avail the complimentary services. I feel that OTT benefit will go away due to high utilization percentage.

Also, NPCI has published these trade secrets in open domain.

From the screenshot shared above it means

1) bank pays npci only 250 per annum for all these benefits, against the fee that we pay the bank (400-1000, varying from bank to bank). That means bank earns a lot just by issuing cards.

2) does the utilisation ration represents the percent of services utilised? Or the cap for the utilisation? If it is the former, I wonder how it is less than 2% despite people using a lot of these benefits.. also if it is the former case, why would NPCI taper down the lounge benefits for just a 3% utilisation??

This also means, as per this utilisation ration that from the 250 rs rupay recieved by npci per bank, less than 200 rs is being actually spent on all these benefits. If this utilisation is kept so, I don't see much of devaluations in the near future.

However if this is not the current utilisation ratio, and maybe target ratio, then a lot of devaluations might follow

I already told, Everything else is the same and renewed for the next financial year 2025-2026.

Ya, they shouldn't have been shared in the open domain.

More devaluations coming i guess, since they slashed the budget for npci spends
NPCI is a private company.

The govt doesn't run NPCI.

And banks have to pay for all these expenses.

Earlier, 3 lounge accesses were given per quarter, but now it has been reduced to 1.

For each lounge access, banks had to pay ₹1,275.

And it's not just NPCI that devalues it alone. A meeting was held with banks in January, and then the decision was made. Lounge access was becoming costly for banks.

I agree with the private company aspect.

But 1275/lounge ain't true. Domestic lounges are provided en-block to banks at around 300. Even 2 lounges per quarter was not making them loss.

Now the reason for the devaluations probably mi8 be the reduction in budget from 2000 Cr to 437 Cr for Rupay Debit Cards and small value UPI transactions. Maybe to keep that facility toto for the time being, and ofcourse fill pockets.
