The brain rotting and brain washing by Social media

I have always stayed away from social media since instagram got video feature in 2018 .
Interacted with people over Non video platforms like discord even tf.
Last 5-6 I made instagram & uses it like once in blue moon

I didn't had conversation with my gf in recent few days , she was out of contact for some reason. Largely I know what it could be.
But then I opened instagram in the feed I could only see BREAK UP. Reels

Sadness reels when u miss someone, ditching reels etc etc in one go

I got furious where is she what is she doing even though I know what could be the reason why she is out of touch .

To the point In 2 -3 visit to instagram I felt like I had in enough and I want answers from her .
I was agitated for no reason, angry, furious you name it.

Few days later ,she contacted was ill & her parents taking care of her 24*7 .

I have never been angry in over a year being together but few minutes of instagram
Influences you so much that you go out of reality.

I Shared this to have a discussion on influence of social media on psychology of layman thinking
Who has less knowledge and assume anything true they hear on these platforms
For those who don't have a gf the algorithm shows you reels which break your self confidence and make you think you are destined to be alone. Also it shows you reels of others in a healthy relationship making you feel jealous and more sad. This was even mentioned several times by the Youtuber shwetabh gangwar.
I wish there was a feature where you could turn off reels, reels is the reason why my instagram account is deactivated.

Social media can lead to brain rot by overwhelming users with constant, shallow content, reducing attention span and critical thinking. It fosters comparison and insecurity, often distorting reality. The algorithms prioritize sensationalism, reinforcing biases and echo chambers. Over time, this can cause cognitive overload, emotional distress, and a diminished ability to think independently.

Social media has both benefits and drawbacks. The Internet connects us, but it also overwhelms our minds with endless information, which leads to a loss of focus and an inability to think independently. Overscrolling results in brain fatigue, misinformation, and emotional manipulation as a result of excessive scrolling. You should use social media wisely to protect your mental clarity and well-being.

Social media is definitely a double-edged sword. While it connects us, keeps us informed, and offers entertainment, it also affects our attention span, critical thinking, and mental health if not used mindfully. The endless scroll of short-form content, misinformation, and algorithm-driven echo chambers can influence how we think and react.
The key is balance—using social media wisely, questioning information, and taking breaks when needed. Instead of letting it control our thoughts, we should control how we engage with it.

It's a gone case after reels
More than connecting it's affecting

I was talking to my friend over a phone call.
He went through a breakup recently and I talked about mine too.
Few hours later I was scrolling insta reels and boom out of the blue saw my ex getting ready for her wedding ( reel was from makeup artist ).
This spooked tf out of me , the level of intrusion these platforms have made in our lives is scary !

We can call phone itself as social media because in almost every app, we can see what others are doing. Problems I faced due to phone addiction.

By lying down and watching videos on bed, my fingers have started paining and also getting mucle pain over hand and shoulder due to keeping the weight of phone for long time. Eyes are deep and dark circles, physical activity reduced, sleepy, headache and tired always.
Sleeping time has moved past 12 am.
Every day morning I get up and first thing I see is the notifications on phone.
Instagram reels has become like news source. Every incident is made as a comedy video by the content creators.
Linkedin has become like instagram after they introduced short videos.
I am always thinking to reduce the usage, tried many ways but nothing worked. It is like drug. Focus mode, DND after 10 pm etc was set in phone, but I went and removed all of that. It always itches to see what's the next hot thing out there.

Coming to content creators:
Content creators are the highest earning money wise and social recognition and acceptance wise in the country. Almost all events, talk shows and inaugurations, they are given VIP entry pass, keynote speech etc. These influencers are leading the best VIP life in the country than anyone else these days. Apart from the monetization they get from the platforms, they also get free review samples, free gifts, interviews, inaugrations, acting chances in films, all sorts of previlege entry in all places and events etc. Mast life for them.

Usage wise - In YouTube I see videos related to personal finance and credit cards, followed by car reviews and some of these content creator posts. Instagram is mostly utility related content pages, local events and happenings etc. Facebook is mostly for Asan Ideas For Wealth and similar finance and share market related contents. On X, I see ccgeek posts and some other happenings. Also there are some whatsapp groups which are active and discuss all the news happening around.

But overall it has become like social media has spoilt one generation. Sad thing is that older people are also now addicted to these things. Just youtube is enough for them to stay glued for hours. Some political and religious posts will do the work.
