[UPI Registration Initiated] not done by me

Hi Team,

I just received few messages that I initiated UPI registration on UPI app , which is not done by me:

Kotak:
Dear Customer,

As per your request, the process to link your Kotak Bank account on UPI App has been initiated. Please call on 1860 266 2666 immediately or contact your nearest branch if this request is not made by you.

IDFC:

You have initiated the process of adding your IDFC FIRST Bank accounts t BHIM UPI. Not You? Contact IDFC FIRST Bank or Register a complaint on 180010888"

Both of which was not done by me. Should I be concerned?

Steps taken:

Called both the banks and blocked debit on my accounts. And Froze accounts as well , as I was able to Perform UPI transactions even after Debit block 🙁

Anything to be concerned about?

Why did I call Kotak and IDFC and blocked my account?
I got message and mail from proper channel and both the listed helpline numbers are valid.

Second, why am I not worried a lot, because I didn't get a message that the linking with UPI app was successful!

Waiting for both the banks to update on why I got that message and where was this UPI registration initiated from.

Might the messages were of past.
 
Finally got the root cause ! IDFC Bank App automatically registered me for UPI 😀 By just opening the app on android phone 😛
Somehow my IDFC First and Kotak are interlinked!

Say when I send some money to <mobile number>@idfcfirstbank it goes to my Kotak bank 😀

This is how I got the notification for both Kotak and IDFC
 
Paytm users are also getting such kind of messages of UPI linking although Paytm has not intimated them. SMS coming from bank. Cause is Paytm removing @paytm addresses and refreshing account linked to paytm wallet. Now you will have the option to choose from new addresses like for sbi customer @ptsbi, for axis @ptaxis etc. Whatever merchant banks they have tie up with will provide personalize address.

P.S: Not a paytm user.
 
Today morning at 1.01AM got the same SMS from HDFC and Kotak . Tried contacting Kotak at the given toll free number after cross checking. No response.
Then called HDFC. The person told its atechnical glitch. Lot of customers got it. Ignore it
 
Just got the same message from my bank, unable to get hold of any banking personnel at this point in time, not sure how or why this is happening, but this is concerning.

Do you hold paytm account or use paytm UPI? Even if you don't, you need not to worry. Banks are upgrading thing at backend and whenever accounts are refreshed from backend such SMS get pushed to users.

I guess it's Paytm which is causing these messages for most of the above cases. It's replacing @paytm handle with @ptaxis and @ptyes in backend and people are getting these sms. This is my assumption. I also got these messages from kotak and HDFC and when I logged into Paytm, saw a new vpa id assigned to me.

It is only because of paytm. I don't have paytm account (old account exist but not used since 2016-17), so didn't receive such kind of sms. Cousin(s) hold and all of them getting it.

I received email from Paytm on Monday asking to update UPI ID or choose to delete it. I thought when I never registered UPI with Paytm why I give it a damn. Soon they will close my account which they should have as it was never a KYC account not even min. KYC.

Got this sms today, is this from Paytm? Because I got this sms from 4-5 banks today
