What happens after credit/debit card expiration date?

I'm a newbie to this credit card stuff and somehow I managed to get 2 credit cards in 5months. Now one thing that is bothering me is what happens after the expiration date written on the card.

It will be very helpful if us newbies can get clarity on below questions:

1.If a credit card is Lifetime free, so is it free only upto expiration date on card?
2.Does a cardholder need to do any process when his/her card expires? Like informing any bank person/customer care?
3.Do we need to reapply the card?
4.Does the card number changes on renewed card?
5.Will there be Any fees or charges for new/renewal card?
6.If the old card was LTF then will it become chargeble after renewal?
