Where do you guys store your photos

I back up my old photos to an external hard disk. But as more and more memories get stored there I'm scared of the hard disk failing and me losing a lot of important memories.
I was considering many options - google one subscription, apple icloud+, adobe 2TB plan, buying a local NAS of my own etc. because these photos mean a lot to me. Already have almost ~400GB of photos with me (lots of them are mirrorless camera dumps so high filesize). Will probably go through them and delete some stuff later when I get time. Will probably take backups of some important memories like a trip with my late grandparents etc.

I wanted to know what you guys do to save photos.

Google Photos. Their AI tagging and security is top-notch. I also keep backups on my external hard drive for obvious reasons.
Do you sync your photos library with them or manually upload? Me and my family usually use apple devices a lot, but it's very awkward to get my mirrorless camera pics onto icloud, so I was considering google one.

I use Google One and have added all my family members into my Family Group. We all use Android, and the photos and videos captured on our phones get uploaded and synced automatically.

However, for the photos captured using my camera, I use my PC to upload them on Google Photos Web manually.

That said, I have already used iCloud and OneDrive, but their UX suck.

You can also use a NAS setup too, and use NextCloud to upload your media there. But there is a bit of learning curve there, and you have to be specialised with networking and security to make your overall setup safe.

Google one since the start, no issues till date and frankly love the memories thing cause otherwise we just forget old photos in drives. Also you can share the plan with family, so my entire family is on my plan.
Lastly I used to keep hard disk backups till last year but I gave up on doing that now.

PS: general pics are fine but you might want to keep nsfw stuff (if any) off the cloud 🙂

NAS is the dream but the upfront costs, especially for a RAID 1 setup is the issue. Setting up stuff isn't an issue for me since I work in tech. I'll see how the UX for google one is in apple devices with a trial maybe.
Thanks for your input

Go for Google Photo if you want easy access and photo editor features, else there many storage services which give 1 TB storage at much cheaper prices.

Microsoft office 365 subscription gives 1TB, family subscribtion provides 1TB per member upto 6 members. This is a better alternative to Google Photos and iCloud in terms of cost.
OneDrive app and website is getting better these days but not as good as Google photos yet.
